Step 1\t\u2192\tAmbition & initial exploration<\/h5>

In a personal meeting we explore your<\/span> background<\/strong>, your<\/span> story<\/strong> and your <\/span>wishes<\/strong>. We discuss whether the book is intended as private family heritage, a representative corporate gift or a public release. We also consider the tone and presentation, intimate, narrative, academic or familial. <\/span><\/p>\n

We then make an initial estimate of scope, print run, budget and schedule. <\/span><\/p>\n

From this first phase both the author and the designer are involved, so text, images and layout are developed in alignment from the outset.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Step 2\t\u2192\tConcept & Narrative<\/h5>

Based on your wishes we develop a clear editorial<\/strong> and visual concept<\/strong> for the book. We choose the narrative approach, for example chronological, thematic, by generation, or organised around houses, businesses or key moments. <\/span><\/p>\n

We prepare a provisional chapter outline and determine the balance between historical context, personal stories, anecdotes and legends, imagery, layout, typography, paper choice and any special binding or finishing. Now that the scope is more concrete, the budget, a possible mock\u2011up and the schedule are further developed and agreed with you<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Step 3\t\u2192\tResearch & Sources<\/h5>

Next we <\/span>gather<\/strong> and <\/span>organise<\/strong> the material on which the book will be based. This includes historical (genealogical) <\/span>research<\/strong> in relevant archives and publications, supplemented by <\/span>conversations<\/strong> and <\/span>interviews<\/strong> with those involved or their descendants. <\/span><\/p>\n

An initial selection of documents, <\/span>photographs<\/strong> and any <\/span>objects<\/strong> that support the story is presented to you. <\/span><\/p>\n

This produces a <\/span>carefully documented foundation<\/strong> in which factual accuracy and personal memories reinforce one another. From there we can work purposefully towards the text and design.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Step 4\t\u2192\tWriting the manuscript<\/h5>

Based on the research, the material is crafted into a readable, coherent narrative.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Chapter by chapter we develop a style that honours both historical accuracy<\/strong> and the personal tone<\/strong> you envisage. <\/p>\n

You will receive draft chapters for your feedback so we can adjust tone, emphasis and any sensitivities in good time. <\/p>\n

All the while, we work on image editing in parallel with the text so text and design develop in tandem.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Step 5\t\u2192\tEditing & authorisation<\/h5>

The complete manuscript is carefully edited for <\/span>style<\/strong>, <\/span>clarity<\/strong> and <\/span>consistency<\/strong> without losing the story\u2019s voice. <\/span><\/p>\n

We re-check facts, dates and names and refine formulations. <\/span><\/p>\n

You (and any reviewers within the family and\/or organisation) receive the text and proposed imagery for authorisation so you can verify and approve the substantive details.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Step 6\t\u2192\tFinal design<\/h5>

After content approval we finalise the <\/span>design<\/strong>, image processing, layout and typesetting, refining the publication down to <\/span>the<\/strong> smallest detail. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Following this last revision you will receive a final proof of the entire book, where content, design and material choices come together. <\/span><\/p>\n

After the final corrections have been made, the book is ready for printing.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Step 7\t\u2192\tPrint production & supervision<\/h5>
After your final approval we prepare the book for printing and binding.<\/span><\/div>\n
